Diplomate of the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy

ICVP is currently the only organization offering pharmacists the opportunity for board certification in veterinary pharmacy. The title of Diplomate of the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy (DICVP) distinguishes those pharmacists who have met rigorous credentialing requirements and have passed an arduous examination to prove competence.

Eligibility requirements

Before applying for certification by the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy, a pharmacist must meet the following credentialing prerequisites:

• Be a graduate of a college of pharmacy approved or accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education or the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs or an international pharmacy school equivalent.

• Be licensed in good standing as a pharmacist to practice in the state or province or country of residence.

•  Demonstrate 10,000 hours of acceptable work in a veterinary institution practicing pharmacy,  OR successful completion of an ICVP-recognized veterinary pharmacy residency or fellowship program.

Application Process

Applications for board certification open each August and must be submitted no later than August 31.

 

Approved applicants will receive examination materials in September and will have approximately nine months to prepare.  The exam is administered once annually during the Society of Veterinary Hospital Pharmacists (SVHP) Annual Meeting, typically held in June.  The exact date is announced each year when the application cycle opens.  The exam is offered in person only. Remote or virtual testing is not available, and all candidates are required to sit for the examination on the scheduled date and at the designated location.
